If you want a reliable and classic-looking surface, you can’t go wrong with black hot mix asphalt. This traditional asphalt mix surfacing is easy to use and requires little maintenance. Made from aggregates and bitumen, hot mix asphalt offers a gorgeous aesthetic improving on hot mix bitumen and can even be rendered with other types of coloured mixes, such as Stardraine®, for a unique finish. It’s called a “hot mix”, as the products used are heated before their application, often rising to 150°C during installation. Hot mix asphalt is generally chosen if you need a surface that’s capable of withstanding heavy loads and constant use, such as paths and driveways.
